Mist rolling through the glacial valley and mountain ridgelines of Glenmalure

The Terrain

Glacial valleys and open ridgelines

Glenmalure is the longest glacial valley in Ireland, flanked by rough upland ground and enclosed by the Wicklow Mountains National Park. You'll cover steep heather, bog, and ancient forest, ground that hasn't changed in generations.

The Stalk

Spot-and-stalk on wild free-range deer

There are no high fences here. These are wild deer on open mountain: unpredictable, sharp, and unforgiving of wind mistakes. That's the point. Two outings a day, working the ground hard from first light and again at dusk.

The Guide

Born on this ground, thirty years at it

Jim Nolan grew up in Glenmalure. He's managed this valley and its deer for over three decades. What he knows about this ground isn't in a book. It comes from being out in it every week of every season.

A memorable week on the mountain

The guiding team knowledge and relaxed approach made for a great week. Accommodation and food were both good, and the rut made for an unforgettable atmosphere on the mountain. A really enjoyable hunt.

A trip worth repeating

The guiding team was professional, hardworking, and friendly throughout. The scenery was stunning and there was no shortage of game. The whole atmosphere was relaxed, and it is a trip I would happily do again.

Gold-medal trophy and top-notch hospitality

The guides, food, and lodging were all excellent. Plenty of animals on the mountain to choose from, including a gold-medal-class trophy. A brilliant hunt from start to finish.

Great spot-and-stalk across a variety of species

A great spot-and-stalk hunt across a real variety of species in southeast Ireland. The guiding team was close-knit and clearly experienced, and they made the absolute most of a short hunting window. Highly recommend.

Felt like family

Our time in the Wicklow Mountains exceeded every expectation. The guides treated us like family from day one and kept us on deer throughout the trip. The lodge and the food were fantastic too — we could not have asked for a better experience.
