Jim Nolan
Jim Nolan was born and raised in Glenmalure. He's been hunting this mountain since he was old enough to follow his father through the heather.
Over thirty years of professional guiding, he's taken clients from across Europe, North America, and further afield on this ground.
He knows the valley in a way that can't be learned from maps or data. He knows where the stags go in wind from the south, which ridgeline gives you the best approach in October, and when to call off a stalk that isn't right.
Jim manages the herd actively: selective culling, monitoring numbers, working with the land rather than against it.

Glenmalure, Co. Wicklow
The Glenmalure Valley is the longest glacial valley of its kind in Ireland. Running roughly east–west through the core of the Wicklow Mountains, it sits enclosed by ridges that rise to over 700 metres, with the Avonmore River on the valley floor.
The Nolan family has held land in Glenmalure since the early 1800s. The current estate covers more than 25,000 acres of private ground.
The hunting ground is bounded on three sides by the Wicklow Mountains National Park, which provides a further 50,000 acres of buffer. The deer move freely between the estate and the park wild animals living wild lives.
There are no high fences anywhere on the property. Not a perimeter fence, not a woodlot fence. The habitat includes open mountain bog, ancient sessile oakwood, conifer plantation, rocky corrie and scree, and the steep heather ridgelines.
